My 3rd great grandfather:
General John C. Carson - commander of the NC State Militia's 10th Brigade (1,523 men).
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi...amp;df=all&

My 4th great uncle:
Captain James Withrow:
Lieutenant and Captain of the Continental Army, NC Militia, Revolutionary War
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=5252234

My 5th great grandfather:
John Smart - Soldier, Over Mountain men, killed at the Battle of Kinds Mountain.
No findagrave memorial yet, still doing research. One book indicated he was taken back to Brittian Church Cemetery in Rutherford County NC to be buried. Another book says he was buried at Kings Mountain... either way, the grave is either unmarked or not legible (I've walked the Brittian Church Cemetery a couple times)... but his name, is on the memorial at Kings Mtn....

That is so cool that you can trace your family back so far. And he is even mentioned quite a bit on the internet buried where you looked. I hope you find him some day.

Overmountain Men & the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail

The Overmountain Men suffered 28 killed and 62 wounded. Two Patriots from Rutherford County, John Smart and Preston Goforth, were among the killed. James Porter and William Robertson were among the wounded. Captain James Withrow, William Smart, and John Smart, all veterans of the Patriot army at Kings Mountain are all buried at Brittain Church, not far from Gilbert Town.

I am a member of the Hannah Emerson Dustin chapter of the NSDAR. I have been collecting the patriots in my local cemeteries (and others as I find them) to try and help others. My patriot virtual cemetery is at: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=vcsr&GSvcid=224207
