I am looking for an obit in Mobile, AL. I contacted the local Mobile newspaper, and was told they don't keep obits back to 2000, but I could get a copy from the Mobile Public Library. I live in Kansas so that's not an option.

The information from the Social Security Death Index:
Name: Vera Prinz (Full name Vera Ione (Kring) Prinz)
Last Residence: 36523 Coden, Mobile, Alabama, USA
Born: 27 Jun 1910 Died: 3 May 2000
State (Year) SSN issued: Louisiana (Before 1951)

I was able to find a partial obit online, but the links were out of date and I haven't been able to find an Internet archive site that goes back to the dates in question.

Here are the original links I found which are dead now:
http://www.al.com/mobile/obits/2000-5-7.html
http://www.al.com/mobile/obits/2000-5-5.html
http://www.al.com/mobile/obits/2000-5-6.html

The preview pane showed the following for the 5/7/2000 obit, but the 5/5 and 5/6 ones were similar:

alabama 36606 mrs. vera kring prinz : funeral services were held sat. ...
... mrs. vera kring prinz : funeral services were held sat. 5 /6/2000 ...

I searched several newspaper archives and several genealogy websites, but did not come up with anything, other than the Social Security Death Index information.

I also tried Find A Grave to see if her grave/cemetery information was listed, but it's not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it's only the cemetery information.

Update.

I was able to find information that Vera is buried in Odd Fellow's Cemetery in Irvington (listed as Bayou La Batre on Findagrave), Mobile, AL. I added her to the cemetery and requested a photo. I have seen a very blurry photo that shows the headstone stands upright. I'm guessing it's about 2' to 3' tall, but I didn't have a perspective to get a better estimate of height.

I don't have plot information at this time.

What information are you needing from the obit? I did find someone on ancestry that has a copy of the obit and a photo of her headstone, but I'm having some trouble getting the images to open. I could contact them for you if you'd like.

Apologies for not replying sooner. Between Easter week-end and IE's sudden decision to keep logging me out of the forums, it's taken a while.

If they are willing, one or more of the following. I would credit them and would respect their wishes on any they don't want me to do.

Vera was my aunt and I'm collecting a family scrapbook to share with my brothers and sister. I would put a copy in it. I have been able to collect almost all of her siblings' obits, except her brother Cyril Kring, from online sources, usually from one of the newspaper archive sites or one of the funeral home sites. Cyril died in 2008 in DeFuniak Springs, FL.

The scrapbook contains pictures, family stories, grave markers, and any obits for our family as far back as I have been able to go. Mostly the obits only go back to our parents and my mom's siblings. I have some pictures of our maternal (her dad's side) great-grandparents. I have been able to trace her father's side back to the mid-1600s for some of our ancestors.

Attach a copy to Aunt Vera's part of our family on Ancestry.com if they were willing to allow it.

If they want to e-mail me, they can do so at rennersmith AT yahoo DOT com.

I know Aunt Vera was close to a Donna Juanita before her death, but I have been unable to get in contact with her.

I did get an update from Mobile Public Library. In theory, they have a copy. They are going to look (for a fee), but the person didn't sound too promising on finding them. I gave them the dates for the 3 obits.

I posted a photo request on Find A Grave for the cemetery, but there are 15 other open requests, dating back up to almost 2 years ago.

I have seen a copy on Ancestry.com, but it won't load for me either and I haven't been able to contact person that posted it. Not sure why it won't let me.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Sincerely,

Paul
