Can someone tell me who has the info on where someone is buried within the cemetery? And can anyone request this info?

Thank you,
Lisa

Depending upon where you live it can either be a cemetery commissioner, a town clerk,a cemetery office on site, a private cemetery off site that may charge you for looking something up or deny you access to the information.

You may want to obtain a death certificate ( there will be a charge) or ask to see a death certificate and see if the burial details are on there.

Good Luck.

Depends on the cemetery also. Many old cemeteries (example, form 1800's) may not have been "platted" and burials just took place in a line next to the last one, and then a new row - without any good records kept.

Even some very well maintained cemeteries that are old may have an "old section" in which they are not sure who is buried in all the unmarked plots.

Also some cemeteries in which they may have kept records - those records may have been lost/destroyed over the years (no one thought about "back-ups" very often) Sometimes a cemetery office would be vandilized or fire or something. Many times the person who kept the records kept them at home - and then after they pass, the records never make it to who they are suppose to make it to and get thrown away or lost.

In addition to placed oscarwilde mentioned, check with local genealogical societies & libraries in the area of the cemetery. Sometimes they may have been able to get burial records for a cemetery.

If recent I would suggest getting the death certificate, if more then 40 years, check to see if it's online already. FamilySearch.org is a great place to start. I've located over half my family tree census and death certificate there.
