Smoke coming out my ears.

I just was doing some research and found something at a site that made smoke curl out from my ears. It is at this page: http://www.venturacogensoc.org/Cemlist.htm At the bottom of the page, in the right hand column, it tells about a cemetery being made into a park. Susie H.

If you switch to the satellite view on the map and zoom in, you can still see the outline of the graves: Ventura Cemetery Park There are only 317 names listed for the over 3000 folks who are supposed to be buried there. Perhaps someone can use the transcription above and update FindAGrave.

I went to the cemetery page and saw a link to a website. I followed the link. There is a letter written by Edward Lupton. It certainly reads like the man was proud of what he had done! He was very methodical in his work. I did search the site for him, and he is not listed yet. When he is here, his flowers should be turned off.

and they couldn't have it a park just as it was?hmmm some contractor made some money there. That was my first thought, too. According to the letter chip’s link, the work was done by city staff.

The City of Whittier, mentioned in the letter (written in 1975) as being interested in the City of San Buenaventura’s work with the memorial park, did, in fact, re-use a cemetery as a park, which, IIRC was completed within the last ten years.
