Better a park than a parking lot. This seems to be a relatively common occurrence.

This doesn't surprise me since the mayor allowed a football stadium to be built over an Native American burial ground in my state.

The past few years I have absolutely decided that I want to be cremated and my ashes scattered wherever I decide that I want them scattered.
My original reason was that I see so many of the once fine old cemeteries in my hometown (city) eventually degraded into a rough and unkempt high crime, crack head, part of the city. Too rough and dangerous for family members to visit their ancestors buried just twenty or thirty years ago. Was a nice older part of town then,, not now.
My family plots now are in a very nice large cemetery on the outskirts of the city that will, in 100 years or less, do the same thing, be in a crummy high crime part of town. it's inevitable.

Cremation is a good way of continuing to provide to others – Some years back a friend was cremated and since she loved daffodils, her remains were mixed with bone meal and 100 bulbs planted on her mountain property. She is surrounded by something she loved and whenever they bloom in the Spring, memories of good times come back. Much better than visiting a plot of grass.

The thread is called "Smoke coming out my ears" and we're talking cremation. Does anyone see the irony in that?

This is very interesting to me because I have been searching for someone who should have been buried in Colombus OH but I just can't find any trace of him. He died after 1850 as he is on that census. His wife who died 1859 as a widow, son, step child, and daughter in law are at Green Lawn, Colombus OH but without him. So he died between 1850 and 1859. I suspect he may have been buried at some old graveyard that is now gone. Do you know if any of the old records survive?
