I am taking a ride on my lunch hour today to check out a possible site for this small cemetery. I believe the "105" mile indicates railroad miles from New Orleans to Slaughter, LA. (a Google inquiry gave me 101.5 miles) A spur can be used for a railroad track, or can be used for a road that is either 1-ended or 2-ended off a main road. Rather than focusing on the word "spur" I was more curious as to what the "105 Mile Spur Crossroads" could mean. I will let you know what I find this afternoon. (I'm in Baton Rouge, LA).

Sorry to be late in reporting. The cemetery that I found did NOT contain the graves as listed as buried in the 105 Mile Spur Crossroads. I also checked another small church in the general area and they were not buried there either. I went to the Bluebonnet Library on Sat. and looked up the exact listing in the Dec. 1967 copy of the Lousiana Genealogical Register. This is what is written "(EBR Parish, located "105 Mile Spur" crossroads) copied Decr. 1961. I believe this cemetery, was located in Slaughter, LA. I am trying to find a map of the Slaughter area dated in the late 1960's and will try both the State Archives and the State Library hopefully this week.

I've been wondering if that 105 mile spur might be one of the railroad lines that backed into private property. The lines used to back up right into the farmers' and ranchers' properties so their stock and produce could be picked up. I work in the Slaughter area and would be very interested if you find out where this cemetery is.

I've sent an email to the Illinois Railroad to see if they can tell me how to calculate just where the 105 mile spur might be located. Got a response saying someone would be contacting me, that was last week. Not that this is an emergency or anything. I work at the State Capitol. I'm trying to find a detailed map of Louisiana from anytime 1930-1965 since whoever did walk the cemetery did it in 1961 and it was reported in 1967. If I can't find it here at the Capitol, I may walk across to the State Library and see what they have. Bluebonnet didn't have anything like it. I just love a good mystery.

Hi Duke, yes the first post indicates they were contacted as well as the Louisiana Archaeology Dept. No luck with either source.

Don't forget, the 105 mile may also refer to the Mississippi River, which for navigation has mileage marked on various maps.

Just throwing out an alternative to railroads.

Mile 105 is at about 29.957,-90.148, and is in the wrong parish.
