Heading up to N. Dak. for the summer and will be working on the county there. Hardly any of it has been transcribed. smile

I have family in Restland and could use some help with (2) obits, as i am in Louisiana. if you have a chance to look up a few names, please let me know. don't want to bother you, but it would be very helpful and appreciated. just didn't want this thread to drift. thanks!

i work on saturdays, so i wouldn't be able to meet up. frown but when i get grave location info on my family, i can at least try to do the section they are in, photo wise. do we know if all the graves have memorials? or would it be better for me to just take all the pics of that section, then look up and add photos where needed, and make memorials for the remaining ones?

Hi gen-friend,

I'd be happy to look for you. Just PM or post the info.

Like Sandra said before, Restland is not anywhere near transcribed - roughly about 15% of it is. I have done two entire sections myself; each section containing 1000+ graves, and I have only ever ran into a handful of pre-made memorials. Of course Sandra and a few others have helped transcribe my photos so I can't speak for them, but... I usually take photos of the entire garden and go from there.

I dug through the newspaper earlier today. I'm not at all familiar with Texas geography or the old-time names of cemeteries... perhaps someone can help find a home for these people:

Dallas Morning News, 1-4-1889 -- http://imageshack.us/photo/myimages/148/141889.gif

Dallas Morning News, 10-16-1885

Then, I ran across multiple obituaries for Westside cemetery in Sherman. Any ideas what it's called today?

sam,

do you want me to pass on the info to anyone who memorials for these people, and make memorials if there are none? is that right? i can do the Minden one. it's local and i can do s Suggest A Correction on it. let me know if i'm understanding you. the second link is hard to read, even when i tried to enlarge it.

what are some of the family names in this "westside" cemetery? let me know and i'll try to figure it out.

The article that was too small: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13005368/10-16-1885.pdf

West Side Cemetery, Sherman News.
Publication, Name
10-18-1885 Hiram Swing
10-23-1885 Henry Sirpliss
11-6-1885, Frankie Banks
11-21-1885, Maj. Isaac Benson
6-29-1886, Mary Miller - age 10, Minnie Miller, age 12
12-3-1889, Annie Young ... died at Ardmore (Oklahoma?)
7-22-1892, Josephine Gremeau

Also in the Sherman News: Inf. daughter of Emilie Bensiel, buried St. Mary's Cemetery on 10-18-1885.

Gen-friend: If a memorial is there, you can Suggest A Correction the obit if you want. Otherwise, I'd make the memorial. Alot of these just say "city cemetery" so I wouldn't know what to look for.

I will take a look at the Veterans site and will post if I decide to work on it. smile

I think Grove Hill Cemetery (also in Dallas) is also larger than the numbers indicate. I did all of section 9 (probably 300) and only 2 of them were already entered. It's at 25,654 now and has doubled in size in less than a year. I know of at least two other people that are working on it and approximately 100 get entered every day.

Has anybody looked at the statistics lately? Last quarter Texas had a comfortable lead by over 1,000,000. This quarter, Pennsylvania has been sneaking up and now is only behind Texas by 800,000. Looks like we all need to find a bunch of unlisted burials and get them online!
