I grew up in Rutland, Worcester County, MA and I now live in Millbury, Worcester county.
I have been entering memorials for two of the old cemeteries in Rutland; West Rutland Cemetery and Old Burial Ground. Since none of these memorials are my own family if you know these folks contact me and I'd be happy to transfer the memorials to you.

I am originally from Reading, Middlesex County and I've also lived in several towns near Worcester where my wife is from. We now live in Vermont but get back to Mass. often to visit family. When we do we try to visit as many cemeteries as time allows.

I don't suppose you would be interested in either helping with it or adopting it? I can't find Florilla Dwight (a photo request)!

Hi! I grew up in Whitman, MA (Home of the Toll House Cookie!) and after 20 year absence, I moved back about 2 years ago. I have been interested in genealogy for over 40 years. Recently, I have decided to attempt to document all of Saint James Cemetery in Whitman on Find A Grave. My goal is to complete this challenge before I join my friends & neighbors there in eternal rest. Pat

It is listed as West Cemetery with an AKA West Part Cemetery and Foamer Cemetery. I still haven't found when Fomer Road lost its "A"; probably buried in some town meeting record. The town does a nice job of maintaining it. I don't envy whomever has to get into it to mow. The way to see if the cemetery has been "found" is to use the Beta Mapper in the Cemetery Fix Thread Beta Mapper Type in the state and county and it brings you to a list of all the cemeteries entered for the county with a pin on the map for those with GPS. Looks like I need to go check the county list. I just saw 2 names I don't recognize as needing maps. I work weekends but if you're ever free during the week, a graving partner would be really nice to have. I live in Florence.

I've finished the Union cemetery in Manchester I've finished the Old South cemetery in Ipswich (there were some stones in the front that hadn't been recorded) I've finished the Notre Dame cemetery in Ipswich Almost done with Rosedale in Manchester (that is, if I can remember where I left off last week ) By the way, have no idea what is going on in Gloucester, but they've seemed to have abandoned all upkeep of the cemeteries. The First Parish is a field of 3 foot weeds and I went to Beechbrook and it hasn't been mowed in a long time.

Welcome to the fold.
FYI - you might not want to display your e-mail in that format as spiders will find it and you'll start getting spam. If you change the @ to (at) with a space between your name & your ISP, it messes up their little search minds, but everyone knows what you mean.

I was born and raised in Andover. I now reside just north of Orlando, FL but all my relatives are still in MA and NH. Five generations of my family are buried Andover. Plan on heading up that way in May to do some cemetery searching as well as local Library research.

I'm from West Springfield, summered in Savoy for the past 45 years. I now live in Sterling.
I found this forum accidentally Googling a cemetery for a Geocache. I found I already had many photos of cemeteries in Savoy.
My mission is to document all of them, including photos, by the end of the summer.
I'm s excited to do this!!!

Meldy - Welcome. Both the Town Hall in Savoy and the Berkshire Athenaeum have the only surviving Western Mass. copies of Walter Corbin's transcriptions of the Savoy cemeteries. The transcriptions include Walter's hand-drawn plot maps & descriptions of where the cemeteries are located. Since you do geo-caching, you'll probably have better luck than most with locating some of those 22 cemeteries from Walter's description.
Jane Phinney is the town historian and former town clerk. She is a priceless resource and old enough to actually know where some of those cemeteries are. Since some are on private property, she could be the "in" for permission to cross the land.
Thanks for joining & good luck.

Thanks! I actually know where 19 of them are from roaming the woods for 45 years. My parents thought it was fun to go find them when I was young. They were listed on the old Savoy State Forest maps. I also have a listing from Jane that only has 21 on it. Hum, there's another project.
This book my neighbor has sounds like Walter Cobin's transcript. Perhaps there is another copy. I just need to have him show it to me! He's a little quirky. Or, maybe he is referring to the town copy...
Still very excited! I can't wait to get out there!

I finished photographing the following today:
Staples, Tower, Second Hathaway and Deming in Savoy. I also did Starks in Hawley.
Deming has many Remington's in it that I need to add.
Starkes Lot in Savoy must be gone. We grid walked the entire field.

If Starks Lot in Savoy is Prince Lewis Stark - it is just a mound in the field on what had been his family farm. Jane Phinney said that there used to be a marker but it either fell down (or was taken down) years ago. The only known burial is Prince Lewis Stark. Jane believes that there are other family members buried there, BUT Savoy has no record. I researched this family for a client and some of his children that died as adults in other towns are listed on the death certificates as buried in Savoy, but Savoy has no record of the burials in any of the town cemeteries. If you find the mound, I know a 92 year old in Michigan that will be SOOO HAPPY to see her great-grandfather's grave. Her birth day is in August so it would make a nice birth day present for her.

I hope I could find it also! If only Emma Miller or Katherine Haskins were still around. I do know the guy who mows the field and intend to ask him.
I will submit a change to "Starkes Lot" as there is no "e". Many of the Prince's family members are buried in the Starks Cemetery I photographed yesterday.

I believe I have that photo you were looking for of Prince Starks in the Starks Lot. It is actually in the woods now and there are are 2 evident mounds (1 large and 1 much smaller), but there could be more. Should I post the photo even though I don't know which is Prince or really who's in there other than the decription is right on?
I also located Millard and Bates. I will request Bates be added to this forum.
